Workplace health and safety systems for a food manufacturing business.
A company that manufactures ambient bakery products had three production units in operation. Each site had risk assessments and health and safety systems in place, but they were not comprehensive. The client wanted to identify areas for improvement ahead of an upcoming external health and safety accreditation audit that would further strengthen their relationship and reputation with a large UK retailer.
Our response:
Stage 1 – Gap analysis
We conducted a comprehensive gap analysis on existing documentation and procedures on site.
Stage 2 - Create/update assessments and H&S management system
We updated/created relevant risk assessments for each area, activity and piece of equipment, and updated the health and safety management system to reflect all the company’s operational activities.
Stage 3 – Site-specific training programme
Our consultants designed and delivered training presentations on the risk assessment findings and safe systems of work. Each production unit received a presentation that was specific to its activities and equipment.
The Results:
The company was audited by an external third party auditor following the training programme and passed the health & safety audit with just two minor nonconformities. The auditor commended the company on the comprehensive nature of its health & safety management systems.
